USAPL and Powerlifting America Approved Gear — Stoic Performance

USAPL & Powerlifting America

Stoic Gear for USAPL and Powerlifting America Competition

Stoic belts, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, and singlets are approved for use at USAPL and Powerlifting America sanctioned meets. Here is what you need, what the rules actually say, and what to check before you show up.

USAPL, Powerlifting America — what's the difference?

USA Powerlifting (USAPL) rebranded as Powerlifting America in 2024. They are the same organization — the US affiliate of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF). If you competed in USAPL before 2024, you are now competing under Powerlifting America. The rules, the approved equipment list, and the drug testing standards are the same.

Powerlifting America uses the IPF approved equipment list. This means your gear must come from a manufacturer on the IPF approved list — not just meet the physical specifications. Stoic is on that list through December 31, 2026.

When the approved manufacturer list matters

At Powerlifting America national championships and IPF international events, the approved manufacturer requirement is strictly enforced. At local and regional meets, meet directors often have more flexibility — some enforce the list, some run on specification compliance alone. When in doubt, email your meet director before you register.

What raw (classic) competition allows

In Powerlifting America's raw division (called "Classic Raw"), you compete with: a singlet, a belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps. No supportive equipment — no squat suits, no bench shirts, no knee wraps. Elbow sleeves are not permitted. This is what most recreational competitive lifters compete in.

Common questions

Do I need IPF-approved gear for every USAPL / Powerlifting America meet?

At nationals and above, yes — approved manufacturer is required. At local and regional meets, it varies by meet director. When in doubt, ask. The safest approach is to compete in approved gear from the start so you never have to change anything as you move up.

What is the difference between Classic Raw and Equipped?

Classic Raw allows belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps. Equipped allows squat suits, bench shirts, and knee wraps in addition. Most lifters compete Classic Raw. Equipped is a separate division with different equipment lists and usually different meet flights.

Is the Stoic 6.5mm belt legal for USAPL competition?

The 6.5mm meets the physical specification (under 13mm, correct width, leather). Whether it is on the approved manufacturer list as a specific model is worth verifying at powerlifting.sport before your meet. The 10mm is the safe, confirmed choice for competition.

Are Stoic Bloodline and Black Label products covered under the same approval?

Yes. Manufacturer approval applies to the product model, not the colorway. All Stoic knee sleeves, wrist wraps, belts, and singlets carry the same approval regardless of color.

How do I verify my gear is legal before the meet?

Download the current approved list PDF from powerlifting.sport and confirm your equipment appears on it. Do not rely on third-party summaries — approved lists update and brands can be added or removed. Check the list directly, and if anything is unclear, email your meet director a few weeks before the event.
