Stoic Gear Is USAPL Legal. No Expiry Date.
USAPL and Powerlifting America are two separate federations with two different sets of equipment rules. Stoic belts, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, and singlets meet USAPL specifications, with no expiry date. At Powerlifting America they are permitted through 31 December 2026. Here is the difference, and what to check before you show up.
USAPL and Powerlifting America are not the same federation
They split in 2021. That November the IPF voted to expel USA Powerlifting, with 23 of its 27 member nations voting for expulsion. Powerlifting America was set up as the IPF's US affiliate in its place. USAPL still runs, still holds its own Nationals, and still has its own rulebook. It is simply no longer part of the IPF, and USAPL results do not count toward IPF international rankings.
So the first thing to sort out is which federation is sanctioning your meet, because the equipment rules are genuinely different. Check the meet sheet or ask the meet director. If it says USAPL, read the next bit. If it says Powerlifting America, read the one after it.
USAPL judges gear on specification, not on a brand list
There is no such thing as a "USAPL approved" belt, knee sleeve, or wrist wrap, because USAPL does not keep an approved list for those items at any level, Nationals included. Its rulebook says so outright:
"Only supportive squat suits, bench press shirts, and deadlift suits that are on the USA Powerlifting Approved List may be worn. All other apparel and equipment described in Section 3 is allowed provided all stated specifications are met. In other words, there is no 'Approved List' for any apparel or equipment other than supportive squat suits, bench press shirts, and deadlift suits."
USA Powerlifting Rulebook v2026.1, revised 01.01.2026, Section 3What that means for you is simple. If the gear hits the numbers, it passes. Stoic belts, knee sleeves, wrist wraps, and singlets are built to those specifications, so they are legal at USAPL meets. No end date on that, because there is no list to be taken off.
Powerlifting America uses the IPF list, and that list has a date on it
Powerlifting America is the IPF's US affiliate, so it runs on the IPF Approved Apparel and Equipment List. There the brand on the gear counts as well as the measurements, and hitting the specification is not enough on its own.
The IPF removed Stoic from that list in January 2026. Under the same notice, Stoic gear stays permitted in IPF-recognised competition, and therefore at Powerlifting America meets, through 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027 it is not eligible for IPF-sanctioned events. We would rather tell you that here than have you find out at the equipment check.
Enforcement is strictest at Powerlifting America national championships and IPF international events. At local and regional meets, directors often have more room to run on specification alone. Either way, if your meet is in 2026 you are covered, and if it is in 2027 you are not. When in doubt, email your meet director before you register.
What raw competition allows
Raw, which some federations call classic, means you lift in a singlet with a belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps. No supportive equipment, so no squat suits, no bench shirts, no knee wraps. Elbow sleeves are not permitted. This is what most recreational competitors lift in.
Stoic gear for USAPL and Powerlifting America
Everything below is built to USAPL specification, so it is legal at USAPL meets with no end date. At Powerlifting America, the IPF's January 2026 notice permits it through 31 December 2026.

At USAPL the measurements above are the whole test. At Powerlifting America they are only half of it, because the brand also has to be on the IPF list, and that is where the 31 December 2026 date comes from.

Yes. At USAPL the colorway is irrelevant, because gear is judged on specification and every colorway is built to the same one. At Powerlifting America the IPF permission applies to the product model rather than the colour, so all Stoic knee sleeves, wrist wraps, belts, and singlets are treated the same through 31 December 2026.
Start by confirming which federation is sanctioning the meet, because that decides everything else. For USAPL, pull the current rulebook from usapowerlifting.com and read the equipment specifications in Section 3. For Powerlifting America, download the current approved list from powerlifting.sport and read the IPF's January 2026 status notice on Stoic alongside it, since we are not on the list and that notice is what permits our gear through 31 December 2026.
